Florists never cease to amaze me. This month, I approached three St. Louis florists:
Laura Steube from Belle Fleur,
Beth Foster Peterson of Jardin,
and Sandra Meyer of Petals Galore
(Petals Galore also works in the Chicago area).
I said "Here are three mint julep cups... work your magic." And these are the stunning results!

For the first arrangement I wanted to capture a natural, just-picked garden
feel. I mixed tulips, ranunculus, larkspur, iris, spray roses, and
alstromeria in contrasting shades and let the flowers create their own
flowing shape. It's wonderful to mix all of these different textures and
see how they all pull together in the end. I used galax leaves at the edges
to give the arrangement a deep-hued focal point at the base.
For the second arrangement I wanted a very soft, Victorian look. To achieve
the effect, I used Porcelina and White Majolica spray roses (this
arrangement also has a wonderful fragrance!), pale pink tulips, soft pink
waxflower, and blue muscari. Once again, I let the flowers dictate the
shape and direction of the arrangement and used galax leaves to anchor it in
the cup.
For the third arrangement I wanted something more dramatic and tailored. A
circle of deep purple, full-blown, lisianthus blooms support the bright
yellow cymbidum orchids. Leftover spaces are filled in with bright fuschia
sweet william which picks up the small amounts of fuschia in the orchids.
The design is simple, but the colors and contrasing shapes definitely get
your attention!

The first arrangement is "The Kiwi, Strawberry, and Orange Cup".
I created visual excitement with this cup, especially for a
Bridemaid's Luncheon! Each place-setting bursts with color and whets
their appetite for more. Have each cup engraved with the maid's initials
as a beautiful keepsake of the day's event. This cup consists of miniature
oranges, kiwi, strawberry plants, and rice flower.
The second arrangement is my "Miniature Tea Rose Cup". I think this design is perfect
for a garden wedding! It is elegant, colorful, and most importantly, cost-effective.
These are the perfect favors to give to your guests as they leave. This cup is designed with
one miniature tea rose plant.
The third arrangement is my "Spray Rose Cup". These cups are replicas of the
mothers' tussie-mussies. Very beautiful and elegant, these cups blend beautifully
with the wedding party flowers. Grouped on the table along with napkin treatments
of mini-spray roses tied with a beautiful chiffon bow and a few rose petals sprinkled around
for the finishing touch. I designed this cup with spray roses, rice flower,
dusty miller, and freesia tips.

These three mint julep cup arrangements were designed to feature the very best garden flowers of April.
All of the centerpieces are very fragrant, including lily of the valley, crab apple blossom, old fashioned
single lilac and my favorite, fragrant viburnum.
The lavender arrangement features lavender lilac, grape hyacinth, white crab apple blossom and lily of
the valley. It is very delicate and would be perfect for a romantic, old fashioned wedding.
This richly colored arrangement features orange parrot tulips, red ranunculus, plum sweet peas, and
mauve crab apple blossom. It is very dramatic and would work well for a wedding where the bridesmaids
are wearing an equally vivid color -- like red or plum.
This white and green arrangement features white dogwood blossoms and fragrant viburnum. This would be
a wonderful centerpiece for a small, sophisticated wedding.
